ABOUT US

Welcome to the Society Of Caribbeans and Africans SOCA. We are an open to all, non profit, non political and non religious group aimed at fostering improved working and social relationships between all ethnicities of African and Caribbean descent. We engage and welcome other ethnic communities across the UK and hopefully across the world. We work with various individuals and organisations on community projects, to positively impact community.

Since 2007, when the group first met  in Waltham Cross with just 4 members, it became increasingly apparent that the black population in the area (Broxbourne, Waltham Cross and Cheshunt) was increasing and not interacting with the local service providers. Increasing reports of ethnicity issues, within the local area and diverse groups was one of the major observations that came up during the meeting. SOCA was then born to make aware that, as an ethnic group Africans and Caribbeans needed to celebrate our many diverse and similar backgrounds and history whilst sharing with the rest of our community.

Our many activities and projects aim to educate our members, and all those interested, about African and Caribbean history and its contemporary resonance. We also discuss aspects of modern culture such as, literature and music as well as developing the skills and knowledge about us. We aim to empower members of all ages through engagement, learning, and available networking opportunities.  We hope to work using education, entertaiment, partnering with charities, private and local organisations/businesses, volunteers, and local communities to deliver our projects.

We are a celebration of African and Caribbean cultures, past and present, building towards the future. For more information about us and how you can get involved, join our official Faceook page or follow us on Twitter @SOCABrox. Contact details for committee members and photos of some of our past events are regularly updated on our website.

Welcome once more to SOCA
